Recommendations for doctors/hospitals\n\n- Pediatrics: Lot of us go to Dr. Kanwar in the Geetanjali Hospital which is in the MMTC colony opposite Aurobindo College and a very popular Ped in the neighbourhood. Dr. Srinivasan of Indraprastha Apollo, Vasant Kunj, is also good (981-000-1558).\n\n- People also use the Ob-gyn, Cadiologist etc. there (in the Geetanjali\nHospital) but it is not a big hospital; more like a clinic\nOther popular places are Sitaram Bharti (close but fairly expensive if\nrepeated visits are required)\n\n- Some specialists visiting IIT from AIIMS are also used frequently by\npeople (need a referral from the IIT doctors)\nAmong IIT doctors, Homeopath is popular and also Mrs. Lily Khosa.\n\n- For Gen Practice, Sandeep/Sanjay(?) Budhiraja at Max in\nPanchsheel, who can refer to specialists at Max in Saket.\n\n- Gitanjali Hospital number: 65671832\nThe surgeon there, Dr Dilip Makhija, and the orthopedist, Dr Pramod\nKohli, are also excellent.\n\n- For endocrinology, Dr Lata who practices at Sitaram Bhartiya. For ENT: Dr. Atul Ahuja (9811014832) has a clinic in Greater Kailash and is very good.\n\n

New Electricity connection?\n\n- Contact BSES office (bsesdelhi.com). There is one at IIT crossing. (Try calling 39 99 97 07.)\n\n- Make sure you have the “no dues” from the previous owner and the load description from the IIT JE (junior engineer).\n\n- Also ask Rajinder in the CS dept.\n\n\n

!Allotment of On-Campus Accommodation to New Faculty at IIT Delhi \n\nThis is my understanding of the house allotment process for new faculty at IIT Delhi. Note that this is a compilation of my experience, thus far, so some of this might change in due course. I am also making some suggestion as to how this process may be improved. \n\n!! The “Open Pool” List \nThe first step to securing a house on-campus is to obtain the list of houses in the “Open Pool”. The Estate Office maintains this list. Someone (either the new faculty or someone from her or his department) has to go the estate office to obtain this list. \n''Recommendation:'' Make this list available online and update the online list regularly.\n\n!!A Tour of Available Houses\n Once you have the list of available houses, you need have a look at the houses. Take an experienced colleague from your department and head to the maintenance office responsible for the houses you want to visit. Note that new and old campuses both have their own maintenance offices, so may need to visit more than one maintenance office to obtain the keys. Following this tour of houses, you will be in a position to make a choice. \n\n!!Your House Allotment Request \nYou will write a letter to the estate office stating which house you want. Provide your IIT Delhi employee identity number along with your full departmental address. Get this letter forwarded by your department head. \n''Recommendation:''An online system for requesting a house allotment would be nice.\n\n!! The House Allotment Letter\nYou will receive a house allotment letter from the estate office. You need to submit a written acceptance of allotment within 5 days of the allotment (to the estate office). The letter will advise you that only you and your family members are entitled to live in the allotted residence and that you shall not sublet the house to anyone. Depending on which house you get, you might also have to arrange for electricity supply from Rajdhani Power Limited (I will describe this later.). \n''Recommendation:'' The acceptance letter seems unnecessary. Furthermore, the allotment letter should include an appendix that describes the other necessary steps (e.g., how to obtain an electricity connection?). \n\n!! Getting the House “In Order” \nThis is tricky and I found this step to be the most frustrating …\n#''Get the House Cleaned:'' All the houses I looked at were in a beat-up state. Make a request to the institute maintenance office (through the estate office) for fixing broken windowpanes and door panels, and for cleaning the house. You may also need to pay couple of visits to the maintenance folks for having these done. (//Recommendation:// The maintenance folks should be able to hand a neat and fully functional house.)\n#''Apply for an Electricity Connection (if necessary):'' To apply for an electricity connection, you need the following:\n##A “no due” from the previous occupant; the maintenance folks (and/or the estate office) should have this available.\n##A complete and duly signed occupation report (again, form is available from the maintenance folks). This form serves as an agreement between you and the institute regarding what the allotted house has in terms of fixtures (e.g., mirrors, wash basin, etc.). Once you provide 5 signed copies of this document, you will be given another document which states the projected electricity requirement of your unit.\nTake the “no dues” certificate, the projected electricity requirement, and your house allotment letter to Rajdhani power. There you will fill another form! \n''Recommendation:'' This process is completely broken. I suggest that all necessary forms, including the form from Rajdhani Power, be provided along with the allotment letter. The allotment letter should describe the steps the new faculty needs to take to obtain electricity connection. It would be nice if the address of nearby locations of Rajdhani Power were also provided.)
